Harmac Announces 100 jobs in Castlerea

16/05/11

US Medical Technologies company invests in 10,000 sq. ft. expansion

Harmac's investment in Castlerea and in the West of Ireland over the past 13 years has been a great success.  We are proud to announce this major expansion to support our current customers and provide capacity for significant new opportunities.

John Somers, CEO, Harmac Medical Products

Castlerea, Co Roscommon 16th May 2011 – Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation Richard Bruton TD today announced that Harmac Medical Products, Inc., a manufacturer of medical devices, and market leader in its business, is to expand its operation in Castlerea, Co Roscommon, with the support of government through IDA Ireland.

The company is making a significant investment in a 10,000 sq ft expansion of its facility and is creating 100 new jobs over the next five years which will bring total employment to 282 on completion.  20 of those positions have already been filled with recruitment underway for the remainder.

Making the announcement Minister Bruton said “Today’s announcement is great news for Castlerea and great news for Ireland. It represents a firm vote of confidence in our skilled workforce and our competitiveness by a leading US medical devices company, and will make a huge difference to 100 families in Co. Roscommon.

“I am determined to build on this announcement to ensure that thousands of families across the country can get similar news over the coming years. Last week’s Jobs Initiative was a good first step in ensuring that this can happen. However we must build on this and implement a range of ambitious policies to reduce costs to business, improve access to finance and encourage research, development and innovation.

“I am developing ambitious plans in conjunction with my Department to address those key areas, so as to ensure that today’s announcement can be replicated all over the country in coming years and we can get jobs and the economy growing again.

The expansion is the result of the Irish operation winning new and extended contracts to produce a range of products for its clients.  Since first setting up its Irish operation in 1998 Harmac has become a significant employer in Co Roscommon and an important addition to the Medical Technologies industry in Ireland

Harmac’s Irish operation supports the company’s global business as a supplier to its expanding client base of world leading healthcare OEM companies.  Harmac is a full service, vertically integrated, contract medical device manufacturer that produces high quality, custom, single use devices for customers around the world.

Speaking at today’s announcement John Somers CEO, Harmac said “Harmac's investment in Castlerea and in the West of Ireland over the past 13 years has been a great success.  We are proud to announce this major expansion to support our current customers and provide capacity for significant new opportunities. Heartfelt congratulations to our Managing Director, Mick McEnroe for his leadership, focus and dedication along with the whole team at Harmac Ltd for their relentless focus on quality, innovation and consistency.  Harmac is quality - our goal, to ensure that our customers and their patients only receive the highest quality medical devices

I would also like to thank the IDA and the regional officials for their long-term support and outstanding effort in helping us achieve our goals together.”

Welcoming the announcement CEO, IDA Ireland Barry O’Leary said “I would like to thank Harmac for its investment in Ireland.  This announcement for Roscommon builds on the strong medical device cluster in the Midlands Gateway.  The Medical Devices industry is a very important sector and Ireland continues to win a significant share of mobile Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in this area.”
